The label promised vigor, clarity, and a kind of inner light. People drank it believing they had swallowed brilliance. They had swallowed poison, but the feeling of borrowed power was real enough to sell.

The glow of the screen becomes the glow of our own mind. We forget that the capability belongs to the system, not to us.

This is not a new failure. It is a very old one. We have always been eager to mistake a tool for a talent. A calculator does not make us mathematicians. A map does not make us explorers. And a chatbot that speaks fluently does not make us thoughtful. The output is borrowed. The understanding is not.

So this is a time to be humble. Not the false humility of performative modesty, but the honest kind. The kind that admits we still have to do the slow work of thinking. We have to read, stumble, revise, and sit with confusion. No external glow can replace that. The bottle was never the cure. The screen is not the mind. The long walk toward ourselves is still on foot.
