MANSFIELD - The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center hosted a celebration for its High School Speech-Language Pathology and School Psychology Mentorship Program on May 7. The half-day event gathered students, mentors, educators, and community partners to recognize the accomplishments and future promise of local high school mentees in these fields.
The morning started with breakfast and networking, giving participants a chance to connect informally. The program aims to support high school students interested in careers as speech-language pathologists or school psychologists by pairing them with experienced professionals. Mentors provide guidance, share real-world insights, and help students explore educational pathways.
During the celebration, attendees heard from speakers who highlighted the importance of early exposure to these professions. Organizers noted that the mentorship program helps address workforce shortages by encouraging students to pursue these critical roles in schools.
The event also allowed mentees to reflect on their experiences and share what they learned. Many expressed gratitude for the chance to work closely with mentors who offered practical advice and encouragement. The Mid-Ohio ESC plans to continue the program, with applications for the next cohort opening later this year.
