That shared history can make a brother or sister the first person someone calls when something goes wrong. Unlike parents, siblings usually stand on the same generational ground. They are not authority figures, and they are not responsible for shaping rules or handing out consequences. That lack of hierarchy can make honesty feel safer. A person may worry about disappointing a parent or triggering a lecture, while a sibling often responds with recognition rather than judgment.

Psychologists suggest this trust is not a rejection of parents. It reflects a search for a different kind of support. Parents may offer guidance, stability and long term perspective.
